OUR AREAS OF PRACTICE
Located in the heart of Old Montreal, S. Zalman Haouzi Avocat services clients situated in Montreal, Laval, Longueuil, Valleyfield, Gatineau, and throughout the province of Quebec. We primarily focus on criminal defence, representing people charged with crimes at every step of the way. We also have experience representing clients in Montreal Traffic Court, as well as representing both landlords and tenants in major housing disputes before the Quebec Rental Board.
CRIMINAL LAW
Criminal law is the primary focus of our legal practice and covers a range of offences like sexual assault, impaired driving, fraud, and more. We primarily work with first time offenders, helping immigrants, students, and hardworking professionals avoid the perils of prison and the crippling effects of a criminal record. When it comes to criminal law, the stakes are high and oftentimes, just an allegation alone has the power to tear your life apart. That’s why we work tirelessly to negotiate with the prosecutor to resolve the matter as quickly and painlessly as possible, and when necessary, take the case to trial to fight for an acquittal.

Traffic violations involve tickets for excessive speeding, cellphone usage, failing to adhere to construction zone signage, and more. Depending on the nature of the charges, being found guilty could result in myriad demerit points, high fines and even the suspension of your driver’s license. We focus on skillfully negotiating with the prosecutor to plead guilty to infractions that carry lower fines and lower demerit points, keeping your driving record relatively pristine, and saving you some money along the way.

The Quebec Rental Board (formerly known as the Regie du logement) adjudicates on all cases between landlords and tenants. We have experience representing both the landlord or the tenant on specific housing matters. Our goal is to resolve the dispute as quickly and as amicably as possible by drafting demand letters and negotiating with opposing counsel. Of course, when negotiations have run their course, we coach our clients to represent themselves at their hearing and even, for certain cases, represent the client at the hearing ourselves.

Our office is located in Old Montreal, conveniently situated near the Montreal Courthouse (Le Palais de Justice de Montréal), the Municipal Court of Montreal, and the Quebec Court of Appeal. While we mainly represent clients in Montreal, we regularly represent clients facing criminal charges all over the province of Quebec, including but not limited to: Laval, Longueuil, Valleyfield, Gatineau, and Quebec City.
The COVID-19 pandemic has made it easier for us to represent clients remotely and we regularly work alongside highly regarded counsel in various districts around Quebec. Additionally, through our collaborations with legal colleagues in other provinces, we also occasionally take on cases in Ontario.
